Lil Wayne appeared in a New York courtroom on Monday (October 20), stemming from an arrest last summer.
.
During Monday’s testimony, the rapper’s assistant, Terry Bourgeois, said he “occasionally” saw a handgun and people smoking pot on Weezy’s tour bus.
.
According to the Associated Press, Bourgeois also testified that he never saw Wayne (real name: Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) with a gun and didn’t know whether or not Weezy was even on the bus in July 2007, when he was arrested in Manhattan.
.
Last summer, the rapper was in New York, headlining his first concert at the Beacon Theatre. Police pulled over his bus, following the show, and found a .40 caliber handgun and marijuana.
.
Wayne was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, while another individual was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.
.
The AP reports that a police officer testified last month that she boarded Lil Wayne’s bus after a concert because she smelled marijuana. She said that while on the bus she saw him try to hide a gun.
.
However, defense lawyer Stacey Richman wants the charges dismissed, claiming police made false claims of smelling marijuana so they could illegally board the bus.
.
Wayne has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is currently free on $70,000 bail.
