Bun B is the only member left of UGK, leaving him responsible to maintain the legacy of the group and his fallen partner, Pimp C.
While many fans are still tearing the plastic off of the latest UGK album 4 Life, Bun says the Pimp C solo album is coming real soon.
“There’s a solo album from Pimp C that’s going to be released in two months called The Naked Soul of Sweet James Jones,” Bun said in a recent interview with MTV. “That’s probably the best album title I think I ever heard in my life.”
The album will be a follow up to the similarly titled 2005 release of The Sweet James Jones Stories, which came out while the Port Arthur, TX native was still behind bars. The first single for the album titled “Let’s Talk Money” featuring Lil Wayne was recently leaked. The track, which is produced by DJ B-Do, will receive alterations to the beat and is expected to feature a third verse from a secret artist upon its official release from Rap-A-Lot.
While Bun alluded to give details on the upcoming Pimp C solo album, he did volunteer information about upcoming Pimp C tribute shows scheduled for select cities.
“They’ll be probably in the top-five markets. These are shows that we’re trying to put together for the core that’s been supporting UGK the most — I would love to do it in every city, it’s just not feasible for me to do — so it will probably be in, like, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta, maybe Chicago, St. Louis,” he said. “I don’t want to get into it, ’cause there’s a lot of cities that support UGK and I don’t want them to be like, ‘Oh man, they ain’t bringing it here, they’re tripping.’ But it’s going to be something more, where we bring other artists into the fold. Like, if we do the Houston show, I’ll have other Houston artists come up and join me on different records. Same thing if we go to an Atlanta or Chicago … try to make it an interactive experience.”
While Bun’s third solo album titled Trill O.G. will soon be on the way, he says that all of his current focus is on the tribute to his lifelong friend.
“Yeah man, we’re trying to do this with as much respect as possible, you know? It’s a very unique and genuine situation in itself — I’m not really sure if it’s ever really occurred as far as hip-hop goes,” Bun said. “We’re carrying this one with the kid gloves on. I made a lot of mistakes in my life — I’ll probably make a lot more — I’m just praying I don’t make one right now.”
In related news, UGK 4 Life hit store shelves nation-wide this past Tuesday and many eager fans from around the country poured onto Bun’s myspace to show their support for the album (myspace.com/bunbofugk). In recent bulletins posted from Bun’s account, fans are encouraged to send photos of them holding the new 4 Life album to bunbofugk@gmail.com, in order to have their picture posted.
