Killer Mike Calls Out 50 Cent & Jay-Z
Grand Hustle’s Killer Mike has called out both 50 Cent and Jay-Z for their recent attempts to spark a “return” to hardcore hip-hop and said he has already paved the way.
While claiming he has respect for rappers like Jay, Mike explained why he should be credited for maintaining hip-hop’s hardcore feel as of recently.
“I don’t wanna hear none of that bullsh*t from none of the n*ggas,” Mike said in an interview. “I dropped I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II last year. If you wanna hear hardcore hip-hop, go to the store, go get I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II…I don’t wanna hear that bullsh*t, these n*ggas who got millions of dollars talking about bringing sh*t back. They ain’t bringing sh*t back. It’s here — you looking at it….Buy me…When that Killer Mike drops, hardcore hip-hop will be back for the second, third time. You know, the same guy that said ‘rap is dead’ three years before Nas said it. I’m here. F*ck with me. Jay dropped ‘D.O.A.’ and everybody went crazy. And I love Jay. A week before that, I dropped ‘Man Up.’ Go listen to that song and go listen to ‘D.O.A.’”
50 recently said his War Angel mixtape would pave the way for hardcore hip-hop’s return.
“I think it will change [rappers' direction] when they see the public respond to it in a positive way that’ll actually allow them to be creative in different areas again and just do what they want,” Fif explained. “It’s all by example. When Get Rich Or Die Tryin’ came out, everything shifted, because they watching it be the largest debuting album to date. 822,000 copies the first week and then another 800,000 copies the next week, they go, ‘Ah man, that’s what I wanna do.’ And then the other artists start doing their version of 50 Cent, we don’t want that but we want them to be able to write their actual story or what they see going on around them.”

real talk from Killer Mike! I got that “In My City” song stuck in my head. That’s a good thing!
Killer Mike is one of the most relevant artists in rap when it comes to shit that be goin’ on in life. He’s got a social conscious kinda like Bun B if I ask me. I agree 100 with what Mike say about Jay-Z. How many people can honestly say the 1st thing that comes to mind when Jay-Z is mentioned is ‘real talk’? See what I mean? I think now that the bottom is falling out of our economy, hard core rap is necessary because it speaks on what’s happening and alot of artists are scurrying around tryin’ to get with the times whereas Killer Mike & Bun B never left, na mean?
I feel what he sayin. Now a days artist want to tell they story. The majority of the artist that come out the south have been through so much and street life is all they know. People gotta respect that. People also gotta respect the fact artist wanna make money! What’s sellin now?? Southern rap, party music. It’s been sellin for years. Until some other kind of music or rap comes out, southern rap or autotone music will be on the top charts, makin the money. But I do love D.O.A.
One thing that I am pisses is that the state that has been consistant this past year, with offering real music is we all know it Texas. The return of ABN with It is what it is, UGK 4 life, Slim thug boss of all bosses, z ro crack, trae- life goeas on I can go all day and the next with the mixtapes TRAE puts out. I hated JAY Z since day one it was unfortunate that BIG Pimpin was with Jay Z, 50 has the recent mixtape and I can say when 50 rap about hood shit it is hard not to listen. DOA sucks, JAY Z does not give justice to that beat. But once again he is out with another album and everyone jumps on the dick.
and Texas still get no respect, hip hop is dead becuase of these self proclaimed bricklayers of rap. Hip hop is dead cuz of JAY Z and 50 but I say this rap has been alive and well in texas dating back to the ghetto boys, dj screw, watts keke, trae, ro, thugga, flip, moe, pokey yo I can go all day I say this F JAY Z and F 50 come against TRAE or RO and see who win that battle.
