Lil Wayne’s seventh studio album, Rebirth, has been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.

The album is picking up considerable momentum, approaching platinum status by the RIAA measurement. Rebirth hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Album chart and reached No. 4 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart. The singles “Drop the World,” featuring Eminem, and “Knock Out,” featuring Nicki Minaj, are rising on the charts.

On Rebirth, Lil Wayne extends his range, drawing from rock, reggae, and new wave influences, intermeshed with his savvy lyricism and distinctive, quick-witted delivery. Lil Wayne received eight Grammy nominations for his multi-platinum 2008 CD, Tha Carter III, which shattered records by selling over one million copies in its first week of release. With Rebirth, Lil Wayne closes a chapter on outstanding decade of repeated successes and starts fresh with renewed drive.

The New Orleans native who hails from the Hollygrove streets released his first tracks at age 12 after he was introduced to Cash Money Co-CEOs Ronald “Slim” Williams and Bryan “Birdman” Williams. Lil Wayne released the first album in Tha Carter trilogy in 2004, which added to his platinum plaques. Two years later, 2006′s Tha Carter II further solidified his status as one of the best MCs in the hip-hop game. But it was 2008′s critically acclaimed Tha Carter III that gave Lil Wayne his iconic stature in popular music by earning eight Grammy nominations (Best Rap Solo Performance, Best Performance by Duo or Group, Best Collaboration on a Rap Song, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Album and the coveted Album of the Year). His leadership role grows as CEO of Young Money Records.

With the release of 2010′s Rebirth, Lil Wayne challenged himself by taking his music to the next plateau. “I have evolved both lyrically and musically as an artist and I want everyone to hear my growing pains,” says the celebrated MC, who is currently serving a one year sentence on Rikers Island in New York City. “This is probably my best work yet.”

New singles from Rebirth are posted on Lil Wayne’s official website www.lilwayne-online.com.
