Interview with Phresh – Miami’s New Generation
Interview By: ESTAXX
I have personally attended Phresh shows and I think this young artist from Miami is ready to blow. I recently had the chance to sit down with Phresh for an interview with Keep It Trill and here is what he had to say.
KeepItTrill.com: Today I bring to you Fly Money Entertainment CEO and artist Phresh. Let’s start this interview off by introducing yourself to the people that don’t already know who you are.
Phresh: I go by the name of Phresh. Im the fly money president. One of the hottest rappers comin out of dade county under 21. I aint really got to say much. The mixtape speaks for me. When you listen to it, you’ll feel like you know me cuz of the way I spill everything out on the beat.
KeepItTrill.com: With Miami being one of the hottest cities in “The South” that has the spot light on it, can you tell the people who you listened to growing up? Who influenced you as an artist?
Phresh: As a lil kid I listened to everything from kirk franklin and Michael Jackson to p. diddy, cash money and tupac. When I began rappin my main mentors were lil wayne and tupac though. They are some of my main influences due to their versatility and that’s what I aim for. My overall mentor is diddy though cuz Its deeper than rap.
KeepItTrill.com: Explain to the fans where it all started for Phresh?
Phresh: Well, as a kid I always had an ear for music. I could hear a song 3 times and know the whole thing. But it really all started when i was with my older cousin who was trappin/rappin back in 02. He was writin a verse and he told me to try and write one. I wrote my verse and it was better than his. And the rest is history.
KeepItTrill.com: Can you tell the world how long you’ve been rapping?
Phresh: I wrote my first verse 8 years ago when I was 12.
KeepItTrill.com: For the label execs looking to sign a Miami artist, what do you feel you’re bringing to the music world and what separates you from the next new artist coming from Miami?
Phresh: The difference between me and most Miami artists is the fact that they’re rappers and im a hip-hop artist. My music is too versatile to just be categorized as rap. I make songs about everything and its not always rap. I bring a lot to the table simply because my talents reach beyond the studio. We have begun the process of entering the entertainment business with an enterprise called Swag Elite Ent.
KeepItTrill.com: What projects have you been working on? Can you clarify your current label situation for the folks at KeepItTrill.com?
Phresh: I just completed my mixtape Presidential shit. Although im working with two other business partners on swag elite ent. I’ve recently been speakin with people from Poe boy and Iconz music but nothing is finalized.
KeepItTrill.com: You have been performing at Club G’z and Gentz, Club Elks, Club 56 and others. How’s the crowd treating you? Are they happy or have you been boo’d?
Phresh: I’m proud to say I’ve never been boo’d and the crowd participation varies from club to club. Depending on how much the dj’s have been spinnin my records in there.
KeepItTrill.com: A few weeks ago on Twitter Poe Boy own Big Chuck took shots at We The Best Music Group own DJ Khaled. How do you feel about this drama between the two? Miami people are saying that DJ Khaled is fake do you feel the same?
Phresh: I feel like as people from Miami we should all be on one accord. And that’s putting Miami on the top of the game. We need unity not public arguments and put-downs. And as for khaled being fake I cant speak on that because I dnt know him but the 2 times I spoke to him he showed love.
KeepItTrill.com: Some say when artists get their deal they s*** on their people that was around them from day 1. How you feel about that? Are you a person that will do that or you’re the person when you blow the people were around you from the bottom to the top blow up?
Phresh: It’s true a few rappers have blown up and forgot about the people who were there since day 1. But my day 1 niggaz have nothing to worry about since all of them are in fly money. We a fam.
KeepItTrill.com: Who are some artist and producers that you would love to have the chance to work with?
Phresh: I would like to do a track with brisco, rick ross, and trina fine ass. (laughs) Producers id say cp Hollywood
