Bun B Wraps Up First Day Of Teaching at Rice University
Written by: Trill Chris
Bun B has officially gone back to school, but it’s not what you’re thinking. The surviving UGK member has just completed his first day as professor at the prestigious Rice University.
As previously reported, Bun B signed up to teach at Houston’s Rice University for a class called “Religion and Hip-Hop”. On an interview with local radio personality Mad Hatta, Bun revealed that he distributed a course syllabus and reading material to the class today and is taking his responsibilities as professor very seriously.
“This is a religious course, this is not in the music department. These are young people who have taken upon themselves at a very young age, dedicated their life to religion, the search of religion and the study of religion, so I don’t want to give these people any mis-information.”
Bun realizes that his teaching may draw some criticism and have people question his credentials, but the rapper says he is ready for anybody who may challenge him.
“I’m totally prepared, I’m from P.A. [Port Arthur, Texas], so not much can shake me up. I used to work with Pimp C ., so it’s very hard to throw me off.”
If you have ever wondered how religion and hip-hop have ever mixed, Bun also gave an explanation of how they comes together.
“Hip-Hop artists and musicians, their religion comes into play a lot more during the course of making their music than people would think because a lot of music is geared toward the club and partying and all that,” Bun stated. “A lot of times people go through a lot of serious life choices throughout the course of their career, may it either be the music, the business, the people around them or the choices that they make. A lot of that comes into conflict with their religion, if their Baptist, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, even Buddhists. Whatever your religion may be.”
Congrats Bun!
