Nelly Furtado was the subject of press after announcing she would donate $1million she received for a private performance for Muammar Gadhafi. Such a gesture is not the first an artist has made to give back to the world, since Beyonce previously entertained the dictator during 2009, with the same intentions.
Beyonce, who was criticized (in addition to Mariah Carey and Usher) for being hired and performing for Gadhafi, despite revealing that she donated the proceedings to aid the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
“All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year’s Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, over a year ago,” Beyonce’s representative relayed to CNN. “Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.”
