R. Kelly Faces Foreclosure On Chicago Mansion
Foreclosure issues are affecting stars too. Months after Jermaine Dupri made headlines with his mortgage problems, R. Kelly faces a similar fate. After giving us countless sequels to Trapped In The Closet, R. Kelly may be without a closet to hide in or rooms to Bump-n-Grind in.
According to Yahoo Reports, the 44-year-old Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter faces a $2.9 million foreclosure suit on his Illinois mansion in Olympia Fields. J.P Morgan Chase Bank filed the complaint against R. Kelly last month after a year of unpaid mortgage.
R. Kelly’s money issues come as a surprise since his 10th album, Love Letter, went Gold and debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200 chart. A close friend of the crooner said R. Kelly didn’t pay the mortgage because he was forcing the bank to modify his loans thereby causing his debt to build. Wesley Snipes tried a similar move with the IRS and he now calls a prison cell home, so maybe this move wasn’t the smartest strategy for Kelly.
Last month, his former manager, Jeff Kwatinetz, sued him for $1 million for withheld commissions saying the singer failed to pay him because “[He] needed to pay off various individuals threatening to expose alleged illicit, embarrassing and unlawful conduct by Kelly, including sexual misconduct.”
In any event, the 11,140 square-foot custom-built mansion boasting a four-car garage and six full bathrooms R. Kelly called home for the past 11 years may not be his for much longer.
R. Kelly is currently headlining a national tour for his latest album Love Letter and wasn’t available for comment.
