Album Review: The Outlawz – Perfect Timing

11 October 2011 215 views No Comment

The Outlawz released what according to them is their final album, Perfect Timing, on September 13th. The album release date holds significance since it’s the fifteen year anniversary of Tupac Amaru Shakur’s death. The remaining members of the Outlawz, E.D.I Mean, Hussein Fatal and Young Noble, chose this special day to pay homage to their founding member, the late Tupac Shakur.

During a recent interview, Young Noble stated, “Perfect Timing is for real soldiers with a real history, making real music to step forward in this game.” The title track, Perfect Timing, definitely has that classic 1990’s style and groove that Tupac was well recognized for. When listening to this track, you almost expect Tupac to drop bars at some point. It makes you wonder if this was a beat that Tupac was meant to record on before his untimely death.

A majority of the tracks on Perfect Timing have an all around smooth feeling to it. Not just speaking in terms of production, but also lyrically. The goal is to tell a story from their individual perspectives and convey a positive message to listeners. The Outlawz deliver somewhat of a life motto on the song Pushin On with the lyrics “Keep moving ahead and don’t look back/ Focus on progress but don’t forget your past.”

On another track, All The Time, the Outlawz show off their grittiness against a beat that you have to nod your head to. This track demonstrates the lyrical ability of each member, their unique styles blending together to become a major force of loyalty and brotherhood. Well seasoned artists, the Outlawz have been in the music industry for nearly two decades.

Perfect Timing is laced with guest features from many artists including Scarface and Krazy Bone, who have both collaborated on songs with Tupac in the past. There is also an appearance from former Outlawz member Kastro and fellow Hip-Hop artists Bun B and Young Buck. Despite the adversity they have faced throughout the years, the Outlawz managed to produce their best work yet.
