VEVO Re-Launches With New Look, Adds Personalization & Facebook Integration

VEVO, the music video site launched in 2009 via a joint venture between several major record labels, rolled out a revamped version recently, offering personalization features and heavy integration with Facebook.

Under the new redesign, users are able to login to using Facebook, which lets VEVO scans your newsfeed and daily Facebook data to create a personalized Facebook playlist. So, if you’ve liked an artist or shared music before on Facebook, VEVO will add that artist’s videos to your playlist automatically.

It also uses Apple’s iTunes Match to scan your iTunes library to create a playlist of music videos that matches your most listened-to artists. Additionally, it will give users the ability to search for a video, watch it, and have VEVO create a “long-play viewing experience based on the stuff you’ve selected,” the company’s SVP of Product, Michael Cerda.

If you’ve visited VEVO.com, you’ll probably notice they updated their player. It’s now bigger, and plays videos faster … and continuously. They also added a slew of artist-specific add-ons, giving users more info such as a biography, links to their official website and Facebook and iTunes profiles, as well as lyrics and news.

VEVO launched officially in December 2009, and became the most visited music site in the U.S. that same month. Two years later, the online property has grown to become the second largest video website behind YouTube, boasting 51.5 million unique viewers in January, according to comScore.

The website is a joint venture between Sony Music, Universal Music, and Abu Dhabi Media, with EMI licensing its music to VEVO.
