Rappers and ballers should have attended the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels sale at Christie’s on Tuesday because, if they had, there would have been a room full of intense bidding, and we don’t know who would have won.

The “Martian Pink,” an extremely rare pink diamond, was one of the main items up for bid. It was once owned by a private collector who bought it from Harry Winston in 1976. Ronald Winston named the rare pink diamond after the United States launched its first satellite mission to Mars, which also took place in 1976. The historic event ensured the notoriety of the huge diamond known as the “Martian Pink.”

To see why it’s really valuable, check out the CBS News coverage below:

The diamond is mounted on a size 7, 18-carat gold ring and sold for a whopping $17.4 million.

We can’t help but wonder which rapper would buy this kind of ice. 50 Cent, Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, T.I.? Any ideas?
