R. Kelly is experiencing problems with his vocal cords!

While on route to New York City for press appearances, the r&b legend experienced discomfort and was rushed back to his hometown, Chicago, to see a specialist.

TMZ reports that Kellz’ discomfort resulted from a 2011 surgery in which doctors drained an abscess on one of his tonsils.

While it is unknown how long he will be out of commission, the 45-year-old has thus far cancelled appearances on NBC’s “Today,” a book-launch party and “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.”

After releasing his latest album, Write Me Back, on Tuesday, the singer was in the process of promoting his new book “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me.”
