Remember how Tupac’s hologram wowed everyone at the Coachella Festival? It turns out the attraction reached as far out as the film people in Cannes, specifically from the elite jury of experts for the Cannes Lions Festival. The Cannes Lions Titanium Award is a part of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, which is one of the most prestigious award events for the digital, creative, and communication industries.

The Tupac hologram beat out 500 other entries at the annual festival to make Digital Domain Media Group the winner of the Cannes Lions Titanium Award. Ed Ulbrich, Chief Creative officer of Digital Domain stated:

“We were thrilled to be part of this project, this completely new idea in entertainment. When Dr. Dre came to us with his vision, we knew that the world had never seen anything like this and that the response was going to be huge. Having ‘virtual 2Pac’ and the idea of virtual performers recognized with a Cannes Lion Titanium Award is beyond exciting.”

The Tupac hologram went over big with more than 15 million YouTube views. Tupac’s album sales also increased by 500% after the performance at Coachella.
