Facebook May Send Your Pics To Law Enforcement If Reported

Are you under 21 and worried that your friends posted pictures of you drinking a beer from last night’s party? Fear not, you will not get in trouble with the police!

According to a Facebook guide, What Happens After You Click “Report”, only some serious and “credible threats of violence” are reported to the law enforcement.

Other issues such as threats of vandalism, violence, and illegal drug usage are dealt with warnings or restrictions of service, including removal of account or blocking of certain features. Sexually explicit content, hate speech, and spam are treated with the same “punishments”. While having your account removed may not be a legal repercussion, I imagine it could be very a torturous punishment for some Facebook users.

Interestingly, reported pictures and posts that contains “self harm” or “suicidal content” will be sent to a crisis hotline.
