No I.D. Confirms Kanye’s New Solo Album Is On The Way

7 July 2012 203 views No Comment

August 7 will be the cruelest day of this already draconian summer. Kanye West and his G.O.O.D. Music assembly guarantee that. However, once the Internet has combusted like firecrackers dissecting and scrutinizing Cruel Summer, fans will wonder what’s next for Mr. West. Will there be more mediocre women’s fashion lines? A report on where CyHi disappeared to? An explanation, perhaps, behind 2Chainz’ appeal?

If one holds long-time ‘Ye associate No I.D. to his word, then Yeezy’s next step will be much more mundane, but also more utilitarian: a new solo album. MTV recently caught up with the Chi-town producer to discuss all things GOOD. His brief answer was everything and nothing at the same time: “It’s what you expect and everything you don’t expect.”

Since speculation is the blogosphere’s game, there’s something that has to be said here. Maybe it’d be a waste to ponder the nitty gritty, but I.D.’s most recent work with Nas and Common could indicate that Kanye might utilize his roots on his next solo LP, leaving the avant-garde expansionism to Cruel Summer. A No I.D.-inflected sound could recall something similar to The College Dropout—a paradox of what we would and wouldn’t expect at the same time.

Then again, it’s probably best just to leave No I.D. at his word. Fans will just have to see what comes of the upcoming solo project once summer morphs into fall.
